Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 31st, 2011

As the pinkest month of the year draws to a close, the ViX team reflects on the importance of Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA). The most common type of cancer among women in the United States, roughly one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Shedding light on BCA as they have for several years, Estee Lauder and Phillips united again this past month to cast world landmarks aglow in pink. Famed buildings like Le Grand Palais in Paris and JFK in New York were lit up in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Evelyn Lauder, herself a breast cancer survivor, developed the pink ribbon symbol in 1992 with Alexandra Penney, Self magazine editor at the time. The following year, Lauder also launched The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), which has raised over $330 million in funding since then.

Pushing pink continued all month long. In a closer look at Paula’s Pink Picks, we’re in love with the Balenciaga Arena Classic Bracelet for it’s neutral shade that can compliment any autumn ensemble. Pamper yourself rosy using the Pink Classic Clarisonic face brush and give your skin the deep cleanse it deserves. In line with pampering, we gave away Essie “Raise Awareness” pink nail polish to Facebook and Twitter fans and 15% of October sales from our ViX Ikat Pink Ripple and Ikat Pink Ring bikinis will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

And just because October is at an end doesn’t mean that Breast Cancer Awareness efforts have to be. Continue to think pink by taking care of yourself. Stay consistent with monthly self exams and routine health check-ups because early detection is key. Treat your body right with excellent nutrition, exercise and rest. At ViX, we are in the business of celebrating women’s bodies. Make sure you celebrate yours!
