One quintessential aspect of the ViX woman is her propensity to give back and inspire others to do the same.  A passion for charitable causes may best be channeled into fundraising, volunteering or servicing the community.  Others may find that they have the gusto and charisma to make a difference through grander means:

As part of giving back this holiday season, ViX is raising awareness for the victims of female genital mutilation (FGM).  As a forerunner for this cause, Somali supermodel Waris Dirie has been both a victim and a survivor.  She’s founded the Desert Flower Foundation to campaign against FGM and provide outreach and support for the women and girls affected.  In this second part of our interview (read part one here), Waris sheds more light on a practice kept in shadows around the world:

ViX:  What inspires your strength to sustain this truly admirable and relentless crusade against FGM?

Her name is Waris and it means, “desert flower…a flower that can bloom even in the roughest climate.”

Unbeknownst to her, ViX designer Paula Hermanny settled in to watch Desert Flower, a film that would touch her heart and move her immensely. The movie reconstructs the story of supermodel Waris Dirie, depicting her childhood in the deserts of Somalia, the nomadic world she lived in and the traumatic crime she suffered at the tender age of three:  female genital mutilation (FGM). 

Scarred both emotionally and physically from this tortuous experience, Waris now seeks to raise awareness against FGM and ...

In our continued efforts to support clean water campaigns, ViX partnered with The Thirst Project, last June, to contribute to the organization’s third annual black tie event, The Thirst Gala. The event awarded distinguished volunteers and celebrity honorees, as well as fundraised and educated guests about the clean water crisis.

Resonating with our own Água Pura Brasil campaign, The Thirst Project strives to “create radical and sustainable global change” and champion the human right to safe, clean water.

The Água Pura Brasil clean water campaign has come to a close. ViX and our partner, Nika Water, officially met and surpassed our goal at 108%, raising $53, 932!

This will bring sustainable, clean water to 4,500 people living along the Amazon River in Brasil. This community, designated by World Vision as Crianças do Amazonas, consists of 80% children that are under the age of 10. We’d like to congratulate the team and give our supporters and partners our heartfelt thanks!
