Paula On: Resort Casual

Paula On: Resort Casual

Cruise season is in full swing and by now, the privileged jet set are most likely en route to the soft, white sands of a tropical paradise and escaping the post holiday blues.  Whether an excursion to Palm Beach or Puerto Vallarta; or a cruise around the Bahamas, stylish yet comfortable resort wear is a must. While “resort casual” may be a confusing concept to some, ViX designer Paula Hermanny has knack for bringing a touch of resort to her every day style.  An expert at packing for warm-weather trips, Paula shares exactly how she puts together her perfect resort ensembles: “Light dresses are always the easiest,” says Paula, “I lay out the clothes I want to bring and match them with accessories ahead of time.”  It is true, dresses do provide a simple solution to vacation dressing—add a piece of jewelry and the outfit is instantly styled.   “I love to mix contrast colors using my jewelry,” adds Paula, “These necklaces were handmade by a Brasilian artist—she used natural resources like wood and seed pods.”  Next to them, she lays out a textured necklace of woven beads and silver brought back from her trip to India. Next, Paula brings out the Cape Navy Rachel, a favorite day dress of hers from the Cruise 2013 collection.  She plans to accessorize it with a pair of vintage gold earrings she found in France and a gold mesh ring that is as equally ornate. “But sticking to one color palette is key,” shares Paula.  For her, it’s a deep blue—“I like it,” she says, “it’s the color of the ViX season!”  She goes on to find bone earrings by Theyskens’ Theory to bring some edge to the delicate Dani dress in navy silk.   “Linen and rayon are the best to pack for warm vacations,” adds Paula.  She puts together a couple more outfits that exude a breezy chicness brought on by shorts from Tidsy, Paula’s favorite place to buy shorts in Leblon.   Finally, she brings out a few more key pieces: clutches and sandals.  “Small bags are so easy to put into a larger tote when you are going to the beach,” Paula says, “and don't forget to bring a nice sandal in a neutral color that will go with everything.” A pair of dainty Manolo Blahniks stands by, ready for packing. “The most important thing is to be confident,” Paula says, and she starts to smile, “be happy and confident!”
